Emmanuel Mueke has been promoted to Associate Partner at KN Law LLP with effect from March 01, 2021. Coming after the firm named a new Managing Partner in January, the promotion of Emmanuel appears to be part of KN Law's strategic efforts to strengthen its corporate practice offerings which have seen it open a London Office. Emmanuel was a Senior Associate at the firm before the well-deserved promotion.
Announcing the move, KN Law's Managing Partner, Mugambi Maingi, hailed the promotion as, "a reflection of the firm's focus on ensuring we have the right people in place to exceed our clients' expectations by providing superior and innovative legal service." He noted that Emmanuel had contributed to the firm significantly and over the years gained a wealth of experience and deserved the promotion.
Emmanuel has over five years' experience in commercial and corporate law, commercial dispute resolution, and litigation. He has advised and assisted clients in different sectors including real estate and construction, insurance, pharmaceuticals, banking and finance, venture capital, transport, communications and ICT, and commercial agriculture, horticulture, and fair trade. His current areas of practice include M&A, Capital and Debt Markets, Privatization, and Tax Dispute Resolution.
Emmanuel is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and East African Law Society (EALS). He was the co-convener of the LSK's Information and Communication Technology and Intellectual Property (ICT/IP) Committee 2018-2020. As a member of the LSK Nairobi Branch, Emmanuel helped in creating the Judicial Evaluation Template presently in use by the Branch.
At KN Law, Emmanuel has recently advised a large pharmaceutical company on the best entity and structure for an association of pharmacists and chemists. He also part of a team that advised a horticulture conglomerate on fair trade principles and handled its certification appeal. He has also been involved in debt structuring and complex debt recovery including recoveries from related companies domiciled in multiple jurisdictions including undertaking significant recoveries litigation entailing a Kshs. 2 billion recoveries suit.
In addition, Emmanuel has helped to incorporate and domicile major foreign investors in the real estate and construction industry including setting up joint ventures and advising on financing, employment and labour laws. He also helped to successfully resolve a multinational NGO's dispute on intellectual property, branding, and registration concerns in South Sudan.
Emmanuel started legal practice at the boutique commercial litigation firm of Wamae & Advocates in 2015 as a Trainee Advocate and rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Associate in 2019 when he left the firm to join KN Law LLP. Emmanuel holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) Degree from Kenyatta University and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
