George Kashindi: The Greatest Asset of a Lawyer is a Good Name

By George Kashindi, Partner at Muthama, Munyao & Kashindi (MMK) Advocates

Proverbs 22:1 – "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches…"

After a number of years in practice, I have come to the realization that the greatest asset of a lawyer is not the robust law library, fancy office, big car, high net worth clients et al.

Those are temporary and seasonal and come and go.

After carefully observing a number of flourishing senior lawyers in practice, the greatest asset and tool of trade seems to be a good name!

It is common for clients to ask around for references when they are giving out work.

And when they do, a good name triumphs over all other considerations most of the time!

A good name is to be desired over great wealth.

A good reputation is worth much more than silver or gold.

Money comes and goes, but if you cultivate a good name, you will keep benefiting from it even long after you are retired.

In fact, many generations can still benefit from your good name long after you are gone.

Do all you can to invest in a good name!
